How to Install WordPress

Looking for an easy way to install WordPress?

Here is a step-by-step guide you can use to successfully create a website on WordPress!

How to Install WordPress in cPanel

What Is cPanel?

Before we talk about how to install WordPress, let’s first give you a short background of what cPanel is.

cPanel is a Linux-based graphical interface that functions as a control panel to simplify server management and websites. It lets you create email accounts, organize web files, manage domains, publish websites, and has many other features.

It is very easy to use to manage your email and website.

WordPress Installation Steps

Log in to cPanel

From your landing page, click Services, the first box you see at the top, below the “Welcome Back, message. You can also see all the products you have active.

Welcome Back

Select your domain by clicking the Active button on the right.

My Products and Services

Select Login to cPanel.

Install WordPress

Once you log in to cPanel, you will see all the functions you can control in your web hosting account. Scroll down to the Softaculous Apps Installer section and click the WordPress icon.

You will then be directed to the WordPress screen where you can see some options. Click Install Now.

Step 3: Manage Software Setup

In the WordPress settings page, start with the Software Setup section. Choose the version you want to install, select the latest version, which is the first option from the dropdown selection. It contains all the latest fixes and enhancements that the other versions don’t have.

Choose the WordPress Version

For Choose Installation URL, choose https:// for your Protocol as it encrypts browser traffic to and from your domain to make the connection secure. Your Domain should be for example domain.com. For the Directory, you are going to install WordPress in the default folder of the Domain, so remove “wp” in the Directory and leave it blank.

Fill Out Site Settings

For Site Settings, place your business name as the Site Name. The Site Description should be your tagline.

If you have multiple WordPress sites, you can manage them in one WordPress control panel. To do this, check the box for Enable Multisite (WPMU).

Change Admin Username and Password

We don’t recommend using the default logins because these can be easily hacked. Make them more personalized, like using your name for the username and include using numbers to make it more secure.

For the password, you can click the key icon under Hide to generate a password. But, the default password only gives you a 65/100 score.

To make it more secure and reach 100/100, you can simply add more characters including numbers to the password.

For the Admin Email, make sure to supply an email that is with the domain, so you can get access when you forget your username or password.

Select Your Website’s Language and Plugins

In choosing your language, select your preferred one. For your plugin(s), select Limit Login Attempts (Loginizer) as this protects your site from brute force attacks and limits login attempts for the installation of your WordPress site.

Also, select Classic Editor to let you have more configuration options, like formatting texts to bold, increasing and decreasing font sizes and placing html code easily.

Configure Advanced Options

For the Database Name and Table Prefix, leave the default information as is.

If you check Disable Update Notifications Emails, you will never get updates about what is happening in your site. It is better to leave it unchecked.

For Auto Upgrade, you can choose from the list as to what you would like WordPress to do. We recommend selecting Upgrade to Minor versions only because some upgrades may break your website format on major updates.

If there needs to be a major update done, you will get an email notification, and you can do the major update manually to ensure your website is upgraded correctly.

Check Auto Upgrade WordPress Plugins and Auto Upgrade WordPress Themes.

Backup Location should be left on default, and Automated Backups should be on by default on a 4-day rotation.

Select Your Website’s Theme

Most of the themes here are demo themes, so you might need to buy one.
